The Jets cut Nick Mangold and I’m officially sad

The New York Jets cut longtime center Nick Mangold this morning. Mangold was a 7 time pro bowler for the Jets and was a huge part of their success upfront for many years. He was also their longest tenured player, and that is where it hurts.

The Jets have never really been good in my lifetime. Always hovering around average except for those two magical years when we went to back-to-back AFC title games. Nick Mangold was a huge part of the success those years.

The move comes as the Jets begin to clear cap space by moving on from veterans and overpriced players. Mangold was just the latest casualty, Nick Folk was released this week too.

That is the nature of the game sometimes though. At the end of the day it is a business, and the team needs to make the right moves financially.

As a fan this is tough to understand sometimes. Especially for the Jets, the fans loved those teams that were good. Nick Mangold is the Jets, he will forever be remembered by fans as one of the best players we saw growing up.

This years Jets team has been all about heartbreak and disappointed, so I guess we can just add this one to the list.
